40 Mega Hyper-Realistic Oil Paintings by Dutch Artist Tjalf Sparnaay

Realistic Paintings: Tjalf Sparnaay was born in Haarlem, the Netherlands, in 1954. He is an artist, photographer, illustrator, and painter. Although Tjalf Sparnaay's educational background was in sports, he taught himself painting and photography. Tjalf Sparnaay draws inspiration from everyday objects and still-life photography. Many of his subjects are foods, such as a crushed Coca-Cola can, a half-eaten sandwich, a bag of chips with mayonnaise, or even a bunch of tulips tightly wrapped in cellophane. He is quite popular for his hyper-realistic oil paintings. He creates these mega-sized realistic paintings, which make viewers drool with hunger. Sparnaay is one of the most important artists who pioneered megarealism painting in the 1980s. His painting style and technique show touches of Vermeer in their detail and colour and of Rembrandt in their use of light and shadow. According to his blog, "By using trivial and everyday objects, I enable reality to flow from my brush once more. My intention is to give these objects a soul and a renewed presence."
