Enhancing Classical Paintings with Contemporary Life by Alexey Kondakov
Ukrainian artist Alexey Kondakov takes scenes and figures from classical paintings and places them in modern-day life. Bouguereau’s Song of the Angels appears to take place in an empty subway car, while a pair of men from Holbein’s famous The Ambassadors are transported to a table in a seedy bar. The usual encounter in museums and art history books finds a new expression through an interesting and playful context. Alexey Kondakov created the "Art History in Contemporary Life" series. The combination of shadows and light gives the two images a painterly quality, creating the impression of a new era in which mythological creatures and religious figures meet contemporary urban life. The skillful digital combination of old paintings and new settings creates amazing art to enjoy.
