Amrita Sher-Gil's Famous Paintings: Amrita Sher-Gil was an eminent Indian painter born to a Punjabi Sikh father and a Hungarian Jewish mother. Sometimes known as India's Frida Kahlo, she is considered an important woman painter of 20th-century India, with a legacy comparable to that of the masters of the Bengal Renaissance. She is also known as India's 'most expensive' woman painter. She spent her early childhood in Hungary before her family moved to Shimla, India. After noticing her talent for painting, her mother enrolled her in renowned schools in Italy and France. In 1934, Amrita Sher-Gil returned to Shimla. She was deeply moved by the sadness of the people around her and decided to paint the lives of the poor. Amrita Sher-Gil was influenced by the Mughal and Pahari schools of painting. Amrita Sher-Gil's paintings beautifully blend Western and Indian painting styles.
