Metal Ribbons Redefined by Joey Marcella's Marble Sculptures
Marble Sculptures and Artworks: Joey Marcella is the owner of the stone business "Mario & Sons". He enjoys sculpting with expensive Carrara marble. A heavy two-cubic Carrara marble block weighing over 1200 pounds was used to create his masterpiece 'Aura', which weighed 80 pounds. To create the 'Aura' marble sculpture, a metal ribbon was bent and twisted until the desired shape was achieved. A 3D digital image was created, followed by a 3D model print of the sketch. The 3D-printed marble sculpture was used as a reference to create his sculpture. The Aura sculpture required 13 months of chipping and a couple more months of design and polishing. "I choose a block of marble and chop off whatever I don't need," said Auguste Rodin.
